In early December, Information Technology will enable Okta FastPass for all JMU users. This optional tool can enhance the Okta authentication process by providing a more convenient and secure way to log into JMU systems.
How do I get FastPass?
FastPass is a function of Okta Verify. If you are a JMU employee with a JMU-owned and managed computer, Okta Verify is installed on your device automatically (note, Verify is not available on some shared-use devices, e.g. kiosks, lab/lectern computers, etc.). Information on setting up Okta Verify and Okta FastPass can be found here:
How does Activating my JMU eID with Okta FastPass work?
While Okta FastPass is entirely optional, there may be some new steps in the process that might be slightly unfamiliar to you. Additional information and steps on the process can be found here:
What is Passwordless Authentication with Okta FastPass?
Okta FastPass is a feature of Okta Verify that allows for Passwordless Authentication in some scenarios. When available, FastPass can leverage your device's built-in security mechanisms (fingerprint reader, facial recognition, or PIN) to verify your identity instead of your password. Because you do not have to type a password, this authentication is often called "passwordless" authentication.
If you have questions or issues as you set up Okta FastPass, please contact the IT Help Desk at (540) 568-3555 or helpdesk@jmu.edu
