After successfully creating a password, you will be asked to set up a 2-factor authentication option.

Applicants will have the option to set up 2-factor authentication, however, it is strongly encouraged to enroll in Okta Verify as an additional form of security and self-service. If you choose not to at initial account setup, you can click Continue (Okta Verify can be added at a later time of your choosing).

Note: if you are accepted into the University and pay a desposit, you will be prompted to set up Okta Verify as a requirement for all active Students.

Other members of the JMU community - including accepted students that have paid their deposit - will be required to set up a 2-factor authentication method. It is encouraged to enroll in Okta Verify, and you can find additional guidance on setting up Okta Verify here. If you do not wish to use Okta Verify, or do not have a capable device that supports Okta Verify, you can use a Yubikey instead. You can find instructions on the setup process for Yubikeys here.

If you have any questions or concerns during the activation process, please reach out to the JMU IT Help Desk.
