How to Obtain a Yubikey

JMU employees are eligible to receive one Yubikey device from the IT Help Desk at no cost during employment. All others may purchase a Yubikey from the JMU Bookstore, with one exception: students who currently have a Duo D100 token are eligible to receive one Yubikey from the IT Help Desk at no cost during the Duo to Okta transition in March 2025.

If you are eligible to receive a Yubikey at no cost, you must submit a request ticket. If you have difficulty completing the request, please contact the IT Help Desk. In your request, please specify:

  • The type of device requested. Two types (interfaces) are available, USB-A or USB-C. Please refer to the pictures below.
  • The person who will pickup your device. You will be notified when your device is ready for pickup, typically within one business day. A designated individual may pick up your device on your behalf, but you must provide this detail in your request. You or the person who picks up your device must come to the IT Help Desk (4th floor SSC) in person and present an ID for verification. IT will not send devices via mail.

Once you have submitted your request, you can come to the IT Help Desk within 24-hours to pick up your Yubikey during operating ours, unless otherwise stated. To add a Yubikey to your account, follow the instructions found here or visit the IT Help Desk for assistance.

If you wish to dispose of an old Duo token responsibly, the IT Help Desk will accept it in person or by campus mail (MSC 0602).
