Details

This article assumes you do not have a smartphone, but you have already obtained a Yubikey hardware token and have it with you.  To begin Okta enrollment, first go to a computer and open your JMU email account. Click the Activate Okta Account link in your "Welcome to JMU Okta" (most people) or your "Preparing for JMU Okta" (some applicants) invitation email. This will take you to mylogin.jmu.edu. You will be asked to enter your eID and then your password, or you may be asked to set your password for the first time. Once you have reached this stage, you are ready for the steps below.

Addtional Note that applies only in March 2025: if you cannot locate your invitation email, but you already know your eID and password, visit mylogin.jmu.edu and try them. If they work, you can begin using the steps below.

On a Windows Device

(jump to macOS device)

  1. During first-time enrollment, Okta asks you to set up either Okta Verify (the smartphone app) or a security key (Yubikey). Click Set Up under Security Key.
