Details

What is a Yubikey?

A Yubikey is a small/portable device that fits on most keychains. Its purpose is to prove you are present at the computer where you are attempting to log into a JMU system. It works by plugging into the computer's USB port and interacting with Okta when you press the Yubikey's button. Yubikeys have no displays, batteries, or network requirements, and there are versions for different types of computers.

Do I need a Yubikey?

If you previously used a Duo token at JMU, or if you do not have a smartphone that will run Okta Verify, you need a Yubikey. Even if your phone does run Okta Verify, you may want a Yubikey as a backup device or to use while traveling (particularly outside the US).

Will I use a Yubikey all the time?

No, most people will use a Yubikey as a backup device to their smartphone.

How can I get a Yubikey?

Please see How to Obtain a Yubikey to learn about Yubikey versions, view photos, and find out how to get one.
