Details

You are able to enroll a passkey on your MacBook (protected by TouchID) in Okta as a security method. You must first enable Touch ID under System Settings and add at least one fingerprint. Please see Apple's documentation on enabling Touch ID.

After setting up Touch ID perform the following steps in Okta:

  1. Log into the Okta dashboard at mylogin.jmu.edu.
  2. In the upper right corner, click your name or the down arrow next to your name.
  3. Choose My Settings from the menu that appears.
  4. Click the Manage Security Methods button.
  5. Next to Security Key or Biometric Authenticator, click Set up another.
  6. Verify your identity with Okta by using a Verify push, your Yubikey, etc. You may also be asked for your password.
  7. When the Set up security methods window appears, select Security Key or Biometric Authenticator.
  8. Click the Set up button.
  9. A Sign In window appears on your Mac. Continue by touching your fingerprint reader.
  10. When complete, you will return to the Security Methods page, and you will see a message indicating "You have successfully setup [sic] Security Key or Biometric Authenticator."  You will also see a new Security Key or Biometric item in the list of enrolled methods, and it will report being enrolled and used only a few seconds ago.
