How do I Install MATLAB?

Log Into MathWorks

  1. Go to https://mathworks.com and click Sign In button at the top-left of the page.

  2. If you do not already have a MathWorks account, click Create Account. Otherwise, provide your JMU email address and click Next.
  3. You will be taken to the JMU login page where you will use your JMU eID and password to log into the service.

Run MATLAB from the Web

If you are using a shared computer, a Chromebook or tablet, or do not wish to install MATLAB directly on your computer, you can use MATLAB through the browser.

  1. While logged into Mathworks, click the orange MATLAB button at the top-left of the page.
  2. Click the Open MATLAB Online button at the top of the page.
  3. MATLAB will run as a web app within the browser.
    1. Note: Working in the browser will require a persistent internet connection to both save and load any data.

Download and Install MATLAB

If you are on Windows, macOS, or Linux device and wish to install MATLAB, this will allow you to run the software independent of a web connection:

  1. While logged into Mathworks, click the orange MATLAB button at the top-left of the page
  2. Click the Install MATLAB button at the top-left of the page.
  3. The latest version of MATLAB will be automatically chosen, though you may choose another version if required. The install compatible with your OS should also be automatically selected for download, but you may choose another OS if you wish using the dropdown on the Download button. Image
  4. After downloading the installer, open it and follow the prompts to install for your system.
