Details

JMU IT is committed to keeping our systems and your information safe. SMS (text messages) are not used as a multi-factor authentication method in JMU's Okta environment because they are far less secure than Okta Verify or hardware tokens (like Yubikey). The change (from former Duo and SMS practice) aligns with best practices in the IT security industry.

Symptoms

  • I need to authenticate with Okta and do not have a smartphone.
  • Why can't I get text or SMS messages from Okta?
  • I do not see an option for Okta to send me text messages during sign in.
