What Happens to My Dukes Email and OneDrive After Graduation

Details

When you graduate, unless you re-enroll, your Microsoft 365 account (your eID@dukes.jmu.edu or "Dukes" email, your OneDrive, and your Office access) is removed after graduation on the following schedule:

  •  May and summer graduates: account/access is removed on October 1
  •  December graduates: account/access is removed on May 1

Here are some suggestions to help you to prepare for this change:

  1. Obtain a personal email account. Free accounts are available from providers like Microsoft and Google.
  2. Tell your friends and other important contacts that your Dukes email address is changing. Consider setting up an auto-reply on your Dukes email account announcing the change.
  3. Save your stuff – copy your files from OneDrive, Canvas, and other JMU applications to personal storage, and copy any important email to your personal account.
  4. Consider purchasing a personal copy or subscription to Microsoft Office.
  5. Establish a Handshake Alumni account with your personal email address as your login.
  6. Update your contact information in MyMadison, and print/save tax forms or other important info.

If you need assistance, please reach out to the Help Desk at 540-568-3555 or helpdesk@jmu.edu.

Note for graduates prior to December 2021: If you have an alumni Dukes account, you must maintain a current password. If your password is expired more than 30 days) on May 1 or October 1, your account will be removed.

Symptoms

  • Office 365 to include Dukes email (eID@jmu.edu), OneDrive, ability to download Office, and access to MS Teams.
  • I received your email about losing my Dukes email account when I graduate, but I am not graduating right away.  What will happen to my account(s)?
