How to Flush the DNS on a Windows Computer

Details

  1. In the Windows Search box (Magnifying glass icon), search for Command Prompt and open the App
  2. At the C:> prompt, type in the following:
    1. ipconfig /flushdns
  3. Press ENTER
  4. You should receive the following message: 
    1. Windows IP Configuration Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache
  5. At the C:> prompt, type Exit to close the Command Prompt App

Making changes within the Command Prompt can have unintended and serious consequences for your computer.  If you don't feel comfortable making changes in Command Prompt, please bring your computer to the JMU IT Help Desk on the 4th Floor of the Student Success Center and we can complete this step for you.

  • Cannot connect to JMU Official Wireless and initial troubleshooting has not resolved the issue
